Company Background
Universal Leaf Philippines, Inc., an affiliate of Universal Corporation based in Richmond Virginia, is a multinational corporation engaged in growing, processing and marketing of tobacco. Its operation focuses in Regions I & II of the Philippines with branches in Pasig, Ilocos Sur, Isabela, and La Union as its head office and home of its manufacturing plant. ULPI leads the Philippine tobacco industry in growing and developing flue-cured, dark-air-cured, and burley types of tobacco, providing it’s local and foreign customers’ products of global standards and quality.
Project Requirements
Universal Leaf PH has its newly-constructed tobacco manufacturing plant located in Reina Mercedes, Isabela. Prior to this project, the Universal Leaf had previously acquired MySolutions as their biometrics provider for their offices and factory facilities. With the continuous commitment of MySolutions with Universal Leaf, they trusted MySolutions to provide an advanced solution for their new factory. The Universal Leaf sent project requirements for entrance access control system plus a contactless time keeping system that will help monitor the entry of their employees and staff entering the facility, with added special features that will ensure the implementation of health and safety protocol to their establishment.

One year into the pandemic, the manufacturing industry has undergone significant disruption and transformation. Widespread remote work had never been a serious consideration, but with this shift came some surprising, welcomed insights. Such as adapting quickly to new demands and supply chain restrictions, and adopting contactless safety processes.
Just like other manufacturers, Universal Leaf adapted these new technology trends, adopting contactless processes of handling equipment and producing products to reduce person-to-person exposure. This not only reduced the safety risks of in-person contact, but also reduced the physical risks that are inherent to manufacturing operations.
